Carpets make a home feel warm, cozy, and comfortable—but they can also trap dirt, dust, and odors if not properly maintained. While scheduling regular professional carpet cleanings is essential for deep sanitation, there are several simple habits you can adopt to keep your carpets looking (and smelling) great in between visits.

Here are our Top 5 Tips to help you extend the life and freshness of your carpets:

  1. Vacuum Regularly (and Properly!)
Vacuuming at least once or twice a week removes surface dirt, dust, and pet hair before it settles deep into the carpet fibers. High-traffic areas may need daily attention. Use slow, overlapping strokes and make a couple of passes in each direction to thoroughly lift debris. Don’t forget to empty the vacuum filter and clean your machine regularly!

  2. Place Doormats at Every Entrance
A simple doormat can stop a surprising amount of dirt from ever making it inside. Encourage family members and guests to wipe their feet—or better yet, leave shoes at the door. Consider using both an outdoor mat to scrape off larger debris and an indoor mat to catch dust and moisture.

  3. Treat Spills Immediately
The longer a stain sits, the harder it is to remove. Blot (don’t rub!) the area with a clean cloth to soak up as much liquid as possible. Then use a gentle cleaning solution, such as a mix of warm water and mild dish soap or white vinegar, to lift the residue. Always test a small hidden spot first to avoid discoloration.

  4. Refresh with a DIY Deodorizer
For a quick and natural way to freshen up your carpet, sprinkle a mix of baking soda and a few drops of essential oil (like lavender or lemon) over the carpet. Let it sit for 15–30 minutes and vacuum it up. This not only absorbs odors but also leaves your home smelling lovely.

  5. Rotate Furniture to Avoid Wear Patterns
Heavy furniture tends to crush carpet fibers and create worn spots. Every few months, rearrange or rotate furniture slightly to distribute foot traffic more evenly. Use furniture coasters or carpet protectors under legs to reduce long-term damage.

Even with all these habits, your carpets will still need a periodic deep clean to remove built-up dirt, allergens, and bacteria. That’s where we come in!
